About Lit Spelling

Lit Spelling began as a family project. Our son was preparing for a school spelling bee, and most of the time we'd practice on words in the car. One of us would read from a PDF and call out a word, our son would spell it back from the back seat, and someone would try to remember which words to retry later. It was chaotic, it worked, and it made us ask a simple question: how can spellers build skills on their own without waiting for a parent, a friend, or a teacher to quiz them?

We built a small demo and shared it with family. The surprise was immediate: a grandmother became our biggest advocate, happily working through country names each day as brain training. That is when the idea clicked. Lit Spelling is for students and lifelong word lovers, anyone who wants a friendly way to build real spelling confidence.

What Lit Spelling does

Lit Spelling turns speaking and typing into simple, independent sessions. Hear a word, spell it back, get instant feedback, and revisit the tricky words later. Ask for a definition or a sentence by voice. Keep sessions short so progress feels achievable and habits stick.

Why families trust us

  • Inclusive by design. No age labels. Spell at the level that feels right for you, whether you are ten, forty, or eighty.
  • Healthy by default. Daily limits encourage small, focused sessions that build momentum without overload.
  • Privacy first. You can use Lit Spelling anonymously. We only ask for an email if you choose a paid plan.
  • Accessible for more people. WCAG-minded design, screen reader support, clear language, and an open feedback loop if something is not yet right.

What makes it different

Our word database blends linguistic research with practical classroom alignment and a steady stream of genuinely interesting words our family adds along the way. Difficulty considers letter patterns, syllable structure, and real-world usage so lists feel fair, challenging, and rewarding.

Built by families, for families

Lit Spelling is a small team with a family heartbeat. We are building openly, improving quickly, and listening closely. If you have feedback, ideas, or accessibility suggestions, we would love to hear from you.
