What is typically covered in Kindy?
Based on the Australian Curriculum: English and common state and territory programs. Individual schools vary, so use this as a helpful orientation, not a strict checklist.
Spelling patterns commonly introduced or consolidated at Kindy
- Phonological awareness: hearing individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words
- Letter-sound correspondences for all 26 letters
- CVC pattern words (consonant-vowel-consonant): cat, dog, run, hat
- Onset and rime: recognising that hat / cat / sat share the -at rime
- Rhyme and alliteration: recognising and producing rhyming words
- Early high-frequency words: the, is, my, at, it, a, I, to
