  • Assimilated prefixes consolidated: il-, ir-, im-, in-, col-, com-, con-, cor-
  • Word families across parts of speech: predict, prediction, predictable, predictably
  • Spelling-meaning connections: sign/signal, bomb/bombard (silent letter surfaces in derivative)
  • Less common classical roots: anthrop, chron, cosm, cracy, gress, log, morph, path, polis, psych
  • Academic vocabulary in writing: evaluate, interpret, identify, analyse, compare
  • Cross-subject vocabulary: photosynthesis, chromosome, democracy, geography
